Bug#584146: data loss after upgrade

Hi Mike,

In an attempt to reproduce the problem, I found out that my profiles had
not been deleted, but simply moved from ~/.mozilla-thunderbird to
~/.icedove. Therefore, the current bug can be closed I guess...

It's frustrating to see that the original Icedove 2 copy had not been
simply kept but at least there is not real data loss.

Whether this is a bug or not is thus left for discussion. In my opinion,
it is, because we could imagine a world where certain people (like me)
would like to use Icedove 2 rather than 3 for certain reasons. Therefore
the migration process should at least ask the user whether he wants to
delete his/her old profiles.

Note that my use case is quite special too: I am developing extensions
(for SOGo interoperability) for Thunderbird/Icedove 2 for the simple
reason that we are waiting for 3.1 before migration our clients. Seeing
Icedove 2 being replaced without a proper transition was quite brutal.
Generally, in Debian, different incompatible versions of a package are
provided concurrently if they can be installed side by side (for example
sqlite). Here it was not the case...

Also, as a developer it can be useful to have multiple versions of the
same package if you want to maintain compatibility across those versions.

Thanks nonetheless for your prompt response!
