You are correct. With a correctly configured server, using
video/x-ms-wvx, it works as expected. And in the cases not working,
the server uses application/octet-stream.

However, it is quite common with missconfigured servers in this aspect,
and firefox correctly identifies the type as "Microsoft ASX
playlist" => this should work.
