oh dear, you're absolutely right - the preinst is meant to transition
away from START_MPD in /etc/default/mpd, but it doesn't work quite like
I intended it to on the the upgrade *after* it completed its work. Shame
on me!

I'll try to upload a fixed package ASAP, marking this bug RC in the
meantime.
