if you're still interested in this feature request after it has been
sitting in the Debian BTS for almost ten years, please DO take it
upstream, probably explaining a little more about your use case (multi-user
systems and group permissions seem increasingly out of fashion...)

If on the other hand if you see no value in keeping it open any longer,
please don't hesitate to close this bug or tell me to close it.

I'm sorry if you were still expecting someone to pick this up...
