Bug#498174: libmms0: Please include support for extended stream properties

Package: libmms0
Version: 0.4-2
Severity: wishlist

An ASF stream can contain several versions of the content encoded in
different bitrates as substreams. The mms software is supposed to
select an appropriate substream when it begins to download the stream.
The bitrates of the streams are described either in basic stream
properties ASF header or in extended stream properties header.

libmms release 0.4 supports only the basic stream properties header,
and ignores the substreams in extended stream properties. Sometimes (I
don't know if this is generally true) the basic header only describes
the low quality substream, and all higher quality substreams are
described in extended headers (maybe an ASF stream can contain only
one basic stream properties header?).

There is a bzr branch with the support for extended properties header
at
https://code.launchpad.net/~tonytung/libmms/asf_extended_stream_properties.
Please, include this feature in the Debian package.

A test case for the feature is
mms://qstream-wm.qbrick.com/00928/sthlm/autowrapper/meta_anordinaryday_070604.wmv.
libmms 0.4-2 (using mimms 3.2.1-1 as a frontend) retrieves a very low
quality substream (9 kb/s audio, 37 kb/s video). With the extended
properties support included, libmms downloads the substream with
highest quality available (67 kb/s audio, 739 kb/s video). You can see
the bitrates when libmms's debug output is activated.
