Do you have time and energy to start that discussion? Given that the
attitude of ffmpeg developers towards C++ seems to be similar to Jon,
I'd expect that discussion to be pretty hard.

I'd really suggest that someone other than me starts this discussion, so
any feel free to reference this bug and start this at the ffmpeg-devel
mailing list.
