No problem, I am always for simplification of things.

I'd like to introduce an (unofficial) XS-Build-Suggests field to the 
source stanza of debian/control and list all external packages there 
that are required to enable support for additional codecs. How do you 
like the idea?

BTW, rumor has it that Daniel is going to reanimate 
debian-unofficial.org as soon as Lenny has been released. I believe it 
will be easier to convince him of our ffmpeg-unstripped approach than 
maybe Christian.
