Yeah, this is also quite useful for the LADSPA plugin for example :)

It won't recognize added codecs since the registry was built and will
probably fail in some way if a codec was removed.

Yes, if someone has the time it might make sense to create backports of
all GStreamer packages is in unstable for Lenny on backports.org
