Is it really necessary to start a commit war here?

this change was proposed previously on this mailing list, with no
responses. You obviously disagree but that does not excuse not
discussing this.

Andres, this is not the first time that you commit controversive and
uncoordinated change to the repository. May I ask you please to be a bit
more careful here? E.g. you could refrain from pushing your commit
directly to the repo, but use git-format-patch(1) to propose your
changes.
