Thanks for the info.  Indeed that looks like a good summarizing 
bugreport!  With absolutely zero response from ftpmaster - that's 
annoying.

If not tried already, then here are some ideas for bringing more 
attention to this issue:

  * Inform release managers that mplayer needs updating before release
  * Ask at d-devel for suggestion on how to move on from here

In both cases refer to above bugreport.
