I took a quick look at the upstream svn log, and found the following
commits that seems to be relevant:

,----
| ------------------------------------------------------------------------
| r2044 | jin_eld | 2010-01-08 11:17:37 +0100 (Fr, 08. Jan 2010) | 4 Zeilen
|
| Recognition of old ffmpegthumbnailer API was failing if
| --enable-ffmpegthumbnailer was passed to configure
|
| [...]
|
| ------------------------------------------------------------------------
| r2042 | jin_eld | 2010-01-06 19:41:20 +0100 (Mi, 06. Jan 2010) | 4 Zeilen
|
| Made sure we are prepared for the ffmpegthumbnailer 2.0 API (thanks to Dirk
| for fixing the name clash between ffmpegthumbnailer and ImageMagick)
`----

this seems to me that we should probably either cherry pick these
changes, or move to a post r2044 snapshot. Another option would be to
remove ffmpegthumbnailer support completely.

Since this issue is marked with severity 'serious', I'm CC'ing all
listed Maintainers of this package. What is your opinion of this issue?
