for whatever its worth, ardour had the same issue.

there's a more elegant fix than the one shown in that bug report
though. the general form is:

    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=StuffToAddToLdLibraryPath${LD_LIBRARY_PATH:+:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH}
