It seems to me that the old copyright info referred to an older license 
(LGPL-2+) than the rewriting (LGPL-2.1+).

Yes, they are compatible, and yes, we may choose to redistribute under a 
stricter license, but if our intend is to document the licensing given 
to us, we should be exact IMO.
