xvidcore broken - ok to use CDBS?

Yes, you are right that the possible underlying mechanisms are patch fix 
or patch avoidance.  There are several packaging styles to apply those, 
and it so happens that we do not all agree on a single set of them.

I certainly do not find it ridiculous to mention CDBS when in fact that 
was my intended approach to solve the issue, and the packaging do not 
already use CDBS.

Applying CDBS without asking first would be considered outragous, I 
suspect.

Not offering my help to avoid mentioning CDBS would be ridiculous.

Abandoning CDBS to avoid your silly comments would be ridiculous.
