well, that's the version from stable. Not exactly what I would want to
use on a post-squeeze system.

No, the cause is the same. The debian mplayer binary has altivec
instructions compiled in, and therefore, won't work on any powerpc
system without altivec. At all!

In order to not loose this report, I'm marking it as duplicate. Thanks
for reporting anyway!

This is expected when using mplayer rc3 with FFmpeg 0.6.
