Unfortunately, AFAICT nothing has really happened since the initial 
discussion. Avidemux heavily relies on its own/private/internal 
heavily patched version of ffmpeg and does not build against the 
pristine libav version in Debian.

I think someone mentioned that the features that got patched into 
ffmpeg by the avidemux developers will get dropped in the next major 
release and thus we decided to wait for the first public beta until we 
continue with the packaging effort.
