Bug#628224: enabling hardware acceleration crashes vlc with segmentation fault

Hi there,

yesterday I installed libva1 (1.0.15-1) and corresponding
libva-dev
libva-glx1
libva-tpi1
libva-x11-1

A test video was played. And VLC did not crash.

I wanted to log some data, but my KDE Desktop (4.7.4-1 - taken from
experimental) totally became unresponsible.
The video still played, but as soon as kwin needed to "do a desktop effect" I
got an unresponsible system for approx. 5 minutes.
But vlc was still playing and sound was working, too.
After 15min I was able to return to a console (CTRL + ALT + F2) and downgraded
libva1 to 1.0.14-1 again -> restart of KDE and I got an responsive system
back. But vlc crashed again. As before.

Sorry, I know, it's not a well documented bug report.

But if I should monitor or test something more / else / again, just let me
know.

Thanks for dealing with this problem!

Cheers

Timo
