Yes, the terminal support in mpg123 is rather basic. It does not consult any caps database, just hopes that the simple controls it issued are universally understood, which obviously works against your desire regarding the cursor.

The reason for switching cursor display off is the display of the progress bar in reverse video. I could possibly improve the behaviour around that.

I am not able to work on this for about two weeks ... but will, eventually. I still would very much avoid linking to ncurses or the like for these simple functions, though.
