Package: mysql-server-5.0
Version: 5.0.41a-1
Followup-For: Bug #426789

Confirming that this problem with "user = mysql" in my.cnf still exists
in version 5.0.41. Yow, it has taken me many days to find why mysqld
hangs on start up and when trying to shut down.

Upstream says in http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=28690 that this should
be fixed in 5.0.44. They have a patch, if anyone can't wait for a
working mysqld.

The problem is not in Etch's 5.0.32 so downgrading to that is another
possible workaround, avoiding the need to reconfigure your MySQL.
