The best way to achieve this is usually to use start-stop-daemon with the --oknodo option." It is possible to get into state when there is mysqld_safe process remained, though main mysqld process is stopped and pid file deleted. In such cases, /etc/init.d/mysql procedure "mysqld_status check_dead warn" will return true and script will do nothing, returning with success. But as cited from policy manual, it should fail, since there are remaining mysqld processes. One way to get into this situation is to start, then stop server from mysqld-admin, which I intend to report as a separate bug on mysqld-admin. While, I was in the office as Crude Oil Production Allocation Controller to all Member Countries. Plenty of funds were passed to me secretly by most member States to cover their surplus or extra productions, based on this I have funds scattered in most African countries and some Arab Emirates. Therefore,I would appreciate to use you to collect the funds, since I can?t come out so openly to collect the funds in my name, the funds will be invested in exotic Properties and in any other profitable ventures. All investments will be in your place under your honest care, after you might have removed 25% for your due compensation for your services, please note that you will only be acting as an appointed crude oil sales agent or facilitator, so the payment documentations will be legally processed in your names. Please, confirm immediately your honest interest to proceed with me as the wire transfer will be in line with International banking regulations, so that I could oblige you with more detailed information on how to proceed. I do not explicitly use mysql on this machine, only automatic stuff is installed, nameley mysql-server-core-5.1 but not mysql-server-5.1. The upgrade reported no warnings about mysql, but the file /etc/init.d/mysql has not been upgraded. Nonetheless to say I do not remember having modified the init.d/mysql file. (I attach a copy of the current one.) .... so exactly the same problem on a second machine. Neither me :) I vaguely remember that during an upgrade I was asked to choose a password (for the database, I guess). If I gave it (do not remember) could this (non-locally) prevent the upgrade of the init.d/mysql ? No warnings about locally modified files in my last /var/log/apt/term, see below. (Aptitude should not have reported a conflict?) With the /etc/init.d/mysql file I sent you could check that it corresponds to 5.1.49-1(and formally prove I've not touched the file). Which package should trigger in its set-up the update of the /etc/init.d/mysql ? Maybe there is an error in the pre-installation scripts. Or ?? a packaging error in the deb file ?? Shall I reset my Mysql or do you need more info/time? (How to reset?) By the way, the original boot failure was detected also in two other debian machines I have (x86). I've not updated them, maybe it would be interesting to see what happens if I update the other two. Do you want me report on that? It turned out from my previous bug report that there was a problem in a init script http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=589513#16 Of course my problem might not be a bug of the core package, but a dirty configuration inherited by bad automatic updates, as suggested in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=589513#13 in this case any suggestion to clean up my state is welcome. The Akonadi daemon, part of KDE 4, launches its own instance and affects the output of ps cax | grep mysqld : /usr/sbin/mysqld --defaults-file=/home/bram/.local/share/akonadi//mysql.conf --datadir=/home/bram/.local/share/akonadi/db_data/socket=/home/bram/.local/share/akonadi/db_misc/mysql.socket To fix this in /etc/logrotate.d/mysql-server, I check for the existence of the socket on its main location: if ps cax | grep -q mysqld; then becomes if [ -S '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' ]; then But I wonder if this solution applies in general, but at least it supports Debian's default settings. -- Bram Schoenmakers From brandsdragon at gmail.com Wed Jan 19 14:29:07 2011 From: brandsdragon at gmail.com (Davis Micro LLC) Date: Wed, 19 Jan 2011 09:29:07 -0500 Subject: [debian-mysql] Best Offer!Only $0.01 Free Shipping On Universal 3.5mm Plug Stereo Headphone Message-ID: <20110119142907.D0BAA1F8364@MailRelay4.com> To view as a Webpage, click here: http://Everbuying.bmemails23.com/c/v?9tSN8Jgb1CaA2og63nvUVOyfuJwUrXxiq7VwmWwV9Ifasf7XDpUkc1brNe69jrgFh%252BAQk94at23E5qrmsLV1yICqLTIuS6kQyODntTr7bDqPq3%252FAfC5JEYgzVq0KtbLO You are receiving this email because of your relationship with Brandsdragon.com. Well, if I mounted the filesystem at say /srv/mysql, then symlinked /var/lib/mysql to /srv/mysql, there would be a lost+found problem, I believe. I suppose I could have mounted it at /srv/mysql and then created /srv/mysql/db and them symlinked to there. Just feels rather roundabout. But if that's the supported way to do it, I can change it to that way. I normally just figure if I want X on its own partition, mount the partition there; that strikes me as the Unix way to do things. README.Debian contains no advice (at least not that I see) on how to store your databases on a separate partition. > > > To: Olaf van der Spek , 608938-quiet at bugs.debian.org > > Never received that one. I am a dying woman who has decided to donate what I have to charity through you. I am 66 years old and was diagnosed for cancer about 2 years ago, immediately after the death of my husband who had left me everything he worked for. When my late husband was alive, he deposited the sum of six hundred and twenty thousand pounds (620,000.00) in a bank in London, which is now wasting and languishing there. I am dying and my Doctor told me that I would not last long due to my complicated health issues, I have cancer. I have been touched by the lord to donate this funds to better the lives of the less privileged through you for the good work of humanity, rather than allow my husband relatives to misuse my husband's hard earned funds inappropriately. ? You may be wondering why I chose you But someone has to be chosen. I decided to reach you directly to solicit for your assistance, I want you to utilize this money in accordance with my will. I will be going in for an operation, and I pray that I survive the operation I have decided to WILL/Donate the sum of (GBP 620,000.00) to charity through you for the good work of the lord, and to help the motherless, less privileged and also for the assistance of the widows. Presently, I have informed my lawyer about my decision in WILLING this fund to charity through you. I have instruct him that 35% of this money when approved by the bank will go for you, and your family 60% will be used by you for my organization and uplifting of the poor and the needy in your country which will bear my name Julian Christopher FOUNDATION, then 5% for the expenses you make in this transaction, so any funds you put in this will be balanced back to you in accurate measures. I will instruct him to arrange for the release of the money to you as soon as i get your responds. I know i have never met you but my spirit tells me to do this and I hope you act sincerely. Note that I will appreciate your utmost confidentiality in this matter until the task is accomplished, as I don't want anything that will Jeopardize my last wish, due to the fact that I do not want relatives or family members standing in the way of my last wish. Secondly I am doing this with trust please do not fail me. Kindly reach me as soon as possible with my email. mrsjulianchris1945 at yahoo.co.uk Thanks, Yours sincerely, Mrs. Julian Christopher. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I didn't have time to take a look at MySQL 5.5 and it's cmake based build system, but I don't think it's a good idea to commit a totally unusable package. Taking a closer look at cmake (and start working on a MySQL 5.5 package) is on my TODO list. I hope to find time for it during next week. The switch to cmake certainly makes this particular upgrade non-trivial. BTW, Steve Langasek is working to make it so that you can have a .init and a .upstart in the debian dir on debian, and dh_installinit will just install both properly. I believe policy has already been amended to allow this. So hopefully we can drop that from the list of things to maintain delta from Debian on soon. > Last year I met with Mathias Gug in Brussels, and we talked about using > bzr for MySQL in Debian as well. MySQL itself is maintained in bzr on Launchpad, so having the packages maintained in bzr seems if nothing else like a nice bit of synchronicity Will you, or anybody else from the mysql maintainers team, be joining us in Budapest? If anybody is interested in being sponsored please email me privately and I'll make sure you get a +1 from the server team.
