Jonathan,
	Patched bug reports are always more likely to get acted on.

	The next step up from that is normally to apply for write access on the 
repository. But  repository administrators (at least for a focused team 
like MySQL) usually want to see a few patches and a bit of triage before 
they hand out write access.
