The results of the discussion are recorded there, along with work items
for the next 6 month Ubuntu release cycle.

The discussion was very positive. I counted *9* Oracle employees in
the session. While their policies are definitely making things hard
on MySQL users in Debian in Ubuntu, I think if nothing else Oracle has
showed that Debian and Ubuntu users are important to them. Norvald Ryeng,
an Oracle engineer, has stepped up to help out with packaging, and will
also be reviewing the Oracle packages to see if we need to do anything
to make sure they integrate properly with the distro packages.

Colin Charles from MontyProgram also came, and was quite helpful in
spelling out where MariaDB fits in to the mix.

As far as this pertains to Debian, I don't think any drastic changes are
going to happen in the near future. We'll ship the critical updates of
MySQL when they come out, and our users will likely adjust their own
procedures to deal with any fallout from regressions introduced. The
engineers have assured me that "Incompatible Changes" are something they
are actively trying to avoid, so perhaps in the 5.5 cycle we can expect
less regressions than we've seen late in 5.1's lifecycle.
