As I have a vested interest in this, I'm shying away from discussion. But MariaDB will support MariaDB 5.5 for the lifetime of Jessie. We have made a similar commitment to Red Hat & SUSE for their enterprise releases as well. 

MariaDB 5.5 was released April 2012, so the official EOL is April 2017 (longer than the official MySQL 5.5 EOL date in December 2015 -- http://www.oracle.com/us/support/library/lifetime-support-technology-069183.pdf)
