yeah, i noticed this yesterday, actually, while reading about 2.0b1.
so in that case we should be making this evident in the upstream
version, not in the debian revision.

i'm not sure what the best way to handle this, but fortunately our
versioning is already marred by an incremented epoch so if we need
to it won't do too much damage to do it again :)

how about this as a proposal?

2:1.3+cvs.yyyymmdd-1

where the date is the date of the cvs checkout.  i actually don't know
what that is... and how this ties in to the cvs bugfixes dpatch.
anyway, this version should count as greater than 1.3, but less than 1.3.0,
so if they release a 1.3 we can call it 1.3.0 (or just increment the
epoch and call it 1.3).

yeah, and it's not 100% backwards compatible, either.  just when you thought
the troubles from netsaint upgrades were gone, the specter returns!
