originally, they were one big lump of plugins.  after sarge was
released, the package design was split between two groups: -basic
and -standard.  the -basic have a fairly light footprint with
remote satellite (nrpe/nsca) systems in mind.

are you using sarge or later?  with sarge, nothing can be done,
as sarge is sarge.  in any case, it would be appreciated if you
could try/use the split packages i mentioned above, and comment
on how they fit/do-not-fit your needs.  i'm open to splitting
up the packages further as long as itmakes sense and doesn't
go too crazy (as i try to stay friends with the ftp-masters
as much as i can:)
