Nagios Inc. regulary sues other Open Source Projects (see Monitoring Plugins) and it is full of limitations. I for myself won't invest any time into it. But others are of course free, maybe I'll upload (I packaged it ages ago) at some point, but imho it is far away from a living, stable project. alex From ftpmaster at ftp-master.debian.org Mon Jul 6 10:00:48 2015 From: ftpmaster at ftp-master.debian.org (Debian FTP Masters) Date: Mon, 06 Jul 2015 10:00:48 +0000 Subject: [Pkg-nagios-devel] check-mk_1.2.6p4-1~bpo8+1_amd64.changes ACCEPTED into jessie-backports, jessie-backports Message-ID: Accepted: -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA512 Format: 1.8 Date: Wed, 01 Jul 2015 15:38:26 -0700 Source: check-mk Binary: check-mk-agent check-mk-agent-logwatch check-mk-server check-mk-config-icinga check-mk-config-nagios3 check-mk-livestatus check-mk-multisite check-mk-doc Architecture: source amd64 all Version: 1.2.6p4-1~bpo8+1 Distribution: jessie-backports Urgency: medium Maintainer: Debian Nagios Maintainer Group Changed-By: Matt Taggart Description: check-mk-agent - general purpose nagios-plugin for retrieving data check-mk-agent-logwatch - general purpose nagios-plugin for retrieving data check-mk-config-icinga - general purpose nagios-plugin for retrieving data check-mk-config-nagios3 - general purpose nagios-plugin for retrieving data check-mk-doc - general purpose nagios-plugin for retrieving data (documentation) check-mk-livestatus - general purpose nagios-plugin for retrieving data check-mk-multisite - general purpose nagios-plugin for retrieving data check-mk-server - general purpose nagios-plugin for retrieving data Closes: 634016 639255 649162 649316 649676 649677 659548 678396 738987 739092 742689 778380 Changes: check-mk (1.2.6p4-1~bpo8+1) jessie-backports; urgency=medium . * Rebuild for jessie-backports. . check-mk (1.2.6p4-1) unstable; urgency=medium . The check-mk nagios add on provides 'mrpe' which is a drop in replacement for nrpe, you can use it with existing nrpe checks but they get run via check-mk's transport, which can use ssh. I moved some of my existing nrpe scripts to that, and I plan to eventually transition them to native check-mk scripts for performance reasons. In addition to replacing nrpe, there is also a check-mk agent that replaces the also insecurce nagios-statd (agent 'ps'). It took some effort to transition, but now everything is done over ssh (even on private networks) and also check-mk comes with so many plugins that I have a lot more checks now and was able to get rid of some custom checks. It looks correct to me. Thanks, -- Matt Taggart taggart at debian.org From taggart at debian.org Fri Jul 10 20:21:33 2015 From: taggart at debian.org (Matt Taggart) Date: Fri, 10 Jul 2015 13:21:33 -0700 Subject: [Pkg-nagios-devel] Bug#649677: check_mk plugins Message-ID: <20150710202133.B2AD620C@taggart.lackof.org> Looking at #649677 about enabling the check-mk smart plugin... I think this could be handled like we handle the logwatch plugin, with a separate package. That way nodes without smart (like VMs for example) don't need it installed/run. But there are other things in plugins/ that might be interesting too, and I don't think they all warrant their own package. So maybe we should do something like the nagios plugin does with groupings of plugins in a couple packages. Also: unfortunately having a plugin in /usr/lib/check_mk_agent/plugins/ enables it, so we can't just deliver them all there and then count on the administrator to enable the ones we want. We could deliver them to something like /usr/share/check-mk-agents/plugins/ and then instruct the admin to symlink to them... Message-ID: <20150710220038.42CF520C@taggart.lackof.org> Hi, Thanks for the idea about site local directories. Current upstream modules/check_mk.py has this: ======================================================================= # are we running OMD? If yes, honor local/ hierarchy omd_root = os.getenv("OMD_ROOT", None) if omd_root: local_share = omd_root + "/local/share/check_mk" local_checks_dir = local_share + "/checks" local_notifications_dir = local_share + "/notifications" local_inventory_dir = local_share + "/inventory" local_check_manpages_dir = local_share + "/checkman" local_agents_dir = local_share + "/agents" local_special_agents_dir = local_agents_dir + "/special" local_mibs_dir = local_share + "/mibs" local_web_dir = local_share + "/web" local_pnp_templates_dir = local_share + "/pnp-templates" local_doc_dir = omd_root + "/local/share/doc/check_mk" local_locale_dir = local_share + "/locale" else: local_checks_dir = None local_notifications_dir = None local_inventory_dir = None local_check_manpages_dir = None local_agents_dir = None local_special_agents_dir = None local_mibs_dir = None local_web_dir = None local_pnp_templates_dir = None local_doc_dir = None local_locale_dir = None ======================================================================= So I think right now the upstream code is assuming that feature should only be enabled if you are using OMD. But I don't see any reason why that has to be the case, it's probably just that OMD automatically puts things in there so that's how they first turned it on. So maybe upstream would be willing to make it more generic? I will point them to this request. Thanks, -- Matt Taggart taggart at debian.org From taggart at debian.org Fri Jul 10 23:28:31 2015 From: taggart at debian.org (Matt Taggart) Date: Fri, 10 Jul 2015 16:28:31 -0700 Subject: [Pkg-nagios-devel] Bug#792076: check-mk: nagios htpasswd.users chown Message-ID: <20150710232831.5162B20C@taggart.lackof.org> Package: check-mk Version: 1.2.6p5-1 Severity: minor During the check-mk build, when setup.sh is run (with DESTDIR set), the following warnings occur: chown: cannot access '/etc/nagios/htpasswd.users': No such file or directory The htpasswd.user chown call in setup.sh isn't using DESTDIR: ======================================================================== # make htpasswd writable by apache, since we need this for # WATO. Also create an empty and Apache-writable auth.serials serials_file=$DESTDIR${htpasswd_file%/*}/auth.serials && touch "$serials_file" && (chown $wwwuser "$serials_file" || true) && (chown $wwwuser "$htpasswd_file" || true) && ======================================================================== The variable $htpasswd_file does not include (and shouldn't, since it gets used in places that need the installed path). So perhaps its chown line should include $DESTDIR but there are a couple problems: 1) When using DESTDIR to install to pseudoroot for packaging purposes that file is probably not going to exist anyway. 2) If you were going to do this, it should be done when installing on the actual check_mk server. Sometimes you are actually running setup.sh on the actual server (in which case maybe it's OK as is) but sometimes you are creating distro packages (in which case you would want to do this in a package configuration script that runs at install time). Maybe what would be best is if $DESTDIR is set to skip the htpasswd_file and serials_file stuff. But... 3) Should the check-mk setup.sh script be changing files that do not belong to it? I understand why they want to do this, but what would be better is if there was a generic mechanism by which check-mk could setup nagios users and the auth.serials stuff. Also it's probably a security risk to allow $wwwuser write access to that file, it would allow a bug in one web script to escalate to total nagios site access. Currently the errors are harmless, it just means check_mk won't be able to automatically setup users since the file won't exist with the right permissions. That is probably the right behavior for Debian until we can come up with a better way of doing things. I will ask upstream for their opinion. -- Matt Taggart taggart at debian.org From taggart at debian.org Fri Jul 10 23:46:19 2015 From: taggart at debian.org (Matt Taggart) Date: Fri, 10 Jul 2015 16:46:19 -0700 Subject: [Pkg-nagios-devel] Bug#792076: [Bug]: htpasswd.users chown Message-ID: <20150710234619.8357C20C@taggart.lackof.org> Hi check-mk maintainers, Can you please review and comment on this issue RE: htpasswd.users https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=792076 Thanks, -- Matt Taggart taggart at debian.org From poc at pocnet.net Sun Jul 12 18:01:31 2015 From: poc at pocnet.net (Patrik Schindler) Date: Sun, 12 Jul 2015 20:01:31 +0200 Subject: [Pkg-nagios-devel] Bug#756479: nagios-nrpe-server: Ignores dont_blame_nrpe=1 Message-ID: Hello, following the discussion, I see no other option for me than recompile nrpe with command args enabled and set it to hold. There is open #780098 which reports a problem with this plugin, but it looks like it is a different one. So a solution would be to fix the existing plugin to work as expected (and promised by it). It would be nice if these could be automatically setup correctly or at the very least the steps documented. Here are some things that check-mk-multisite wants to read/write: /etc/check_mk/conf.d/wato/ /etc/check_mk/conf.d/wato/contacts.mk /etc/check_mk/multisite.d/ /etc/check_mk/multisite.d/wato/ /etc/nagios3/htpasswd.users /etc/nagios3/auth.serials Probably more. Maybe someone using multisite could start by making a HOWTO we can put in README.Debian and maybe automate from there. -- Matt Taggart taggart at debian.org From taggart at debian.org Tue Jul 14 21:26:14 2015 From: taggart at debian.org (Matt Taggart) Date: Tue, 14 Jul 2015 14:26:14 -0700 Subject: [Pkg-nagios-devel] Bug#792451: check-mk: source contains embedded copies of jquery Message-ID: <20150714212614.5D8D51FB@taggart.lackof.org> Package: check-mk Version: 1.2.6p5-1 check-mk upstream contains embedded copies of jquery/jquery-mobile. $ find web/htdocs/jquery/ web/htdocs/jquery/ web/htdocs/jquery/images web/htdocs/jquery/images/icons-18-white.png web/htdocs/jquery/images/ajax-loader.png web/htdocs/jquery/images/icons-36-black.png web/htdocs/jquery/images/icons-18-black.png web/htdocs/jquery/images/icons-36-white.png web/htdocs/jquery/jquery-1.6.4.min.js web/htdocs/jquery/jquery.mobile-1.0.js web/htdocs/jquery/jquery.mobile.structure-1.0.min.css web/htdocs/jquery/jquery.mobile-1.0.css web/htdocs/jquery/jquery-1.7.1.min.js web/htdocs/jquery/jquery.mobile-1.0.min.css web/htdocs/jquery/jquery.mobile.structure-1.0.css web/htdocs/jquery/jquery.mobile-1.0.min.js We need to remove it, build-dep on the debian version, and make the build use it. -- Matt Taggart taggart at debian.org From taggart at debian.org Tue Jul 14 21:45:56 2015 From: taggart at debian.org (Matt Taggart) Date: Tue, 14 Jul 2015 14:45:56 -0700 Subject: [Pkg-nagios-devel] Bug#792453: check-mk: config packages and multisite Message-ID: <20150714214556.591071FB@taggart.lackof.org> Package: check-mk Version: 1.2.6p5-1 Right now the check-mk-config-* packages delivers nagios/icinga specific content that is used for both base check-mk and also multisite. needed for base check-mk: /etc/nagios3/conf.d/check_mk/check_mk_templates.cfg /usr/share/check_mk/modules/defaults needed for multisite: /etc/apache2/conf-available/check-mk-multisite.conf /etc/check_mk/multisite.mk /usr/share/check_mk/web/htdocs/defaults.py The problem with this is that the apache config it delivers enables Alias /check_mk /usr/share/check_mk/web/htdocs but if you are only installing check-mk-server then you don't want that turned on yet. Upstream apparently keeps documentation on Sourceforge, which has been down for some time (multiple days). I installed this in the mistaken belief it would provide documentation..! Odd that Debian would ship, essentially, an empty package. -- "One can never know for sure what a deserted area looks like" - George Carlin From ftpmaster at ftp-master.debian.org Mon Jul 20 20:46:40 2015 From: ftpmaster at ftp-master.debian.org (Debian FTP Masters) Date: Mon, 20 Jul 2015 20:46:40 +0000 Subject: [Pkg-nagios-devel] Processing of icinga2_2.3.8-1_amd64.changes Message-ID: icinga2_2.3.8-1_amd64.changes uploaded successfully to localhost along with the files: icinga2_2.3.8-1.dsc icinga2_2.3.8.orig.tar.gz icinga2_2.3.8-1.debian.tar.xz icinga2-bin_2.3.8-1_amd64.deb icinga2-classicui_2.3.8-1_all.deb icinga2-common_2.3.8-1_all.deb icinga2-dbg_2.3.8-1_amd64.deb icinga2-doc_2.3.8-1_all.deb icinga2-ido-mysql_2.3.8-1_amd64.deb icinga2-ido-pgsql_2.3.8-1_amd64.deb icinga2_2.3.8-1_amd64.deb Greetings, Your Debian queue daemon (running on host franck.debian.org) From ftpmaster at ftp-master.debian.org Mon Jul 20 21:45:02 2015 From: ftpmaster at ftp-master.debian.org (Debian FTP Masters) Date: Mon, 20 Jul 2015 21:45:02 +0000 Subject: [Pkg-nagios-devel] icinga2_2.3.8-1_amd64.changes ACCEPTED into unstable Message-ID: Accepted: -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Format: 1.8 Date: Mon, 20 Jul 2015 21:24:42 +0200 Source: icinga2 Binary: icinga2 icinga2-common icinga2-bin icinga2-doc icinga2-classicui icinga2-ido-mysql icinga2-ido-pgsql icinga2-dbg Architecture: source amd64 all Version: 2.3.8-1 Distribution: unstable Urgency: medium Maintainer: Debian Nagios Maintainer Group Changed-By: Markus Frosch Description: icinga2 - host and network monitoring system icinga2-bin - host and network monitoring system - daemon icinga2-classicui - host and network monitoring system - classic UI icinga2-common - host and network monitoring system - common files icinga2-dbg - host and network monitoring system - debug symbols icinga2-doc - host and network monitoring system - documentation icinga2-ido-mysql - host and network monitoring system - MySQL support icinga2-ido-pgsql - host and network monitoring system - PostgreSQL support Changes: icinga2 (2.3.8-1) unstable; I think for now the best thing to do would be to change the debian build to not deliver the mobile plugin and jquery, and disable them. If the problems get sorted out then we could reenable. -- Matt Taggart taggart at debian.org
