The version from etch will not work in any case.  I never had
a problem with the one from lenny.  But if you're going to
test something, I think the most useful version to test is the
one from unstable.

I'm not sure how easy it is to get this to build on etch.  You
probably need to remove the autogen build-dep and remove the
"--disable-local-libopts" part in the configure call.  You'd
also need to change libcap2-dev to libcap-dev.  We also changed
to debhelper compat level 6, but I think it should be easy to change
that back to 5, and used dpkg's 3.0 quilt source version, so you'd
need to unpack this on atleast lenny.
