Can you please check what /etc/nsswitch.conf says for hosts?

I have the same nsswitch.conf entry as Vincent, which comes from
libnss-mdns.

I just checked a Squeeze installation on a system that was
affected by this problem with Lenny. I manually deferred the
WLAN, but, nevertheless, ntp behaves correctly and starts syncing
shortly after the network comes up. So for me solving this
problem has a very low priority.
