Hi,

I had a similar problem recently. In my case, the NTP user id was not within
the system user ID range. Can you attach the output of 'grep ntp /etc/passwd'
and 'grep ntp /etc/group' please?

Also, can you attach the compressed output of 'strace -fF -s2048 apt-get
dist-upgrade' please?
