Bug#643584: any chance to get 96xx working in testing/unstable

I thought to ask since now testing carries 1.11.x series of xorg, so all
testing/unstable users of 96xx are stuck and there is no obvious
workaround any more.  

I wonder if there was any motion upstream to provide this legacy
support for newer X?
