Well, that's something that can be changed. There will be changes to the
NVIDIA packaging, so changing the package name won't be a big issue.
How does the namespace look like? How do non-free drivers fit in there best?

For nvidia we would have these drivers: nvidia, nvidia-legacy-VERxx

xserver-xorg-video-nvidia* - looks so much like the free drivers
xserver-non-free-video-nvidia* - does not match your search pattern :-)
xserver-xorg-video-non-free-nvidia*
...

Any suggestions?

I think the Debian NVIDIA Maintainers
<pkg-nvidia-devel at lists.alioth.debian.org> would be interested to get
these information, too.
