I think I fixed this with my last commit some hours ago.

This sounds like a sensible strategy, but please try first the build with
my last changes. I would say that these changes are orthogonal to the
use of CDBS.

I am still using make_3.80-11, so this is probably the reason I was not
bitten by this bug. I will try with the new make pacakge to see what
happens.
At any rate, CDBS is very popular nowadays and I would bet that this bug
report will not stay open very long.
