I tried rebuilding 2.1.72-5 locally to see if something in the packaging
breaks the package, or if it is the upgrade of some build dependency
that makes it chrash now.

The locally built 2.1.72-5 also chrashes.

There is a octave-core file generated, but I do not know what format it
is. It is not an ordinary core file and it is only 11 bytes. I'm
attaching it in case it can be helpful to anyone.

I just started rebuilding octave again with DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS set to
"nostrip noopt". Hopefully that will give some clues.
