It is because we are Cc:ing all messages to the pkg-octave-devel mailing
list, to which you are subscribed.

It is because the message that goes through the mailing list get headers,
as well as an Alioth-generated footer added to them.  Otherwise, the
contents should be the same, as you noticed.  Just delete one of the
messages to avoid cruft in your mailbox.
