Actually, atlas should provide symlinks via the alternative system.

Can you please post the output of the following commands:

$ ls -l /usr/lib/*lapack*

$ ls -l /etc/alternatives/*lapack*

$ /usr/sbin/update-alternatives --display liblapack-3.so
