Thanks, I had found that one with some help from people on
#debian-mentors :-)

No, this is where octave puts this particular file.
There seems to be in issue with the binary files octave produces
through the pkg.m. There was a thread in octave-maintainer here:
http://www.cae.wisc.edu/pipermail/octave-maintainers/2007-September/004022.html
but I can't see any closure to this issue and I will take it up on
that list.
