I think we already discussed about this and we agreed to ship octave2.1 with
lenny.  I agree with all your arguments above but it is the tradition in
Debian to provide smooth transitions.  I think the Debian users of Octave
that use it interactively, are using today octave3.0.  However, there may be
cases where people run old, pre-3.0 scripts that only work with octave2.1 +
octave2.1-forge.

I would vote for keeping octave2.1 for now and drop it for lenny+1.  We
already added notes to the package descriptions and in debin/NEWS about the
future drop.
