Ok, first test did not go well.

Following the example in the help for javaArray I get:

octave:3> a = javaArray ("java.lang.String", 2, 2);
panic: Aborted -- stopping myself...
attempting to save variables to octave-core'...
save to octave-core' complete


Not promising.
