I suggest you file bugs against all other packages that are part of the
hdf5 transition. Or maybe not ...

Your bug reports are useless, sorry. I'm well aware of the problem
(indeed, octave-specfun alreay has a bug report from someone else for
precisely this reason) and couldn't do anything due to the jpeg transition
(it's pretty hard to build anything when one cannot install the build
dependencies).
