FWIW, Ubuntu needs to support upgrades from dapper to hardy for their "LTS"
series, and dapper included openldap2.2 2.2.26-5. I'm not sure if any of
this code that's being dropped is relevant for upgrades from that version?
The ldbm migration question was already present at that time, but users
weren't forced to upgrade to ldbm until 2.3; so it might be nice to keep
this question around through to OpenLDAP 2.4 and the hardy release (April
2008) to let us better share packaging between Debian and Ubuntu in the
meantime.

Cheers,
