Seems that it's just a minor problem in debian/rules. I think to have a
working patch, but it needs testing. I also reopened the affected bugs
for documentation. We should only close them when they are properly
fixed.

The revert had some weird effects on my system but I guess I worked
everything out. I also think the build could be handled in an easier way
but I am not sure of that. I'll just fix the issues, upload, and then
maybe go for changing debian/rules and address the other open bugs, if
everyone is OK with that.
