I'm on it (and the one to blame that the bug ended up at our place). I
noticed the bug was filed against to mpi-defaults which I am subscribed
to. (Also, a copy went to debian-science-maintainers at lado). Open MPI
used to build on alpha, that's why Adam made it default for alpha in
mpi-defaults. The breakage occured somewhere between 1.2.7~rc2 and
1.2.8. I reassigned the bug to us since we had a working version until
now. If it appears to be unfixable, we can reassign to mpi-default and
change it to use LAM/MPI on alpha instead. But I guess the breakage was
unintentional and can be sorted out easily.

I did not have a look at the issue yet, so I did not want to bring it
upstream without having a clue what's wrong; but we might need to get to
them anyway since they seem to export private symbols in their libraries
which is a really bad idea. But I have to dive deeper into that too.

I hope to get around to fix those two during the week. If anyone has
more cycles to burn, please go ahead!

Best regards, and a "Happy New Year!" to everyone!
Manuel
