[Pkg-openmpi-maintainers] Open MPI 1.3 in Debian and a suggested transition

Fellow Maintainers,

Open MPI 1.3 is now in unstable, and it looks like that a rebuild is
somewhere between 'very strongly suggested' (e.g. by upstream) and 'required'
(as seen by Christophe who had some C++ apps fall over).

I personally think that a full release of libopenmpi12 and libopenmpi13 would
be massive overkill. I think we can in fact get by rebuilding packages.

As a starting point, I have put together a Wiki page at

   http://wiki.debian.org/OpenMPI13Transition

that identifies the packages

   gromacs-openmpi
   illuminator-demo
   libarpack2
   libboost1.37-dbg
   libboost-mpi1.37.0
   libhdf5-openmpi-1.6.6-0
   libhypre2.0.0
   libhypre-2.4.0
   libluminate7
   libmesh0.6.2
   libmesh0.6.2-pure
   libmesh0.6.3
   libopenmpi-dbg [ self-reference, done ]
   libopenmpi-dev [ self-reference, done ]
   libparmetis3.1
   libpetsc2.3.3
   libspooles2.2
   openmpi-bin [ self-reference, done ]
   paraview
   parmetis-test
   r-cran-rmpi

and maintainers

who I plan to contact with a heads-up and request for re-built, followed
(maybe two weeks later) by a wishlist bug report followed (maybe two weeks
later) by a binNMU.

Now is your chance to speak up. Am I being overly naive and simplisitic here
or do you think this can fly?

Comments most certainly welcome!

Cheers, Dirk
