Definitely that the problem is only limited to my system now.

Yes, the CDROM is an IDE/PATA drive.

 For these questions, I don't know how to get the answers. Just that,

- This is the only kernel that I use for audio extraction. This is the only
time that I try it as well. So I can't provide info for other kernels.

- The kernel that I'm using, although fails cdparanoia, works fine with VCD
ripping, CD burning, and even audio extraction with icedax.

Oh, might it be just a permission problem? I'm in audio/video/cdrom group,
and I remember that I need to be in another special group.
