Yes, this dependency can be just removed.

Debian packaging of view3dscene relies on whitedune-docs just for a
few test X3D models. I recall we talked on this mailing list that this
dependency can be maybe just dropped (
https://alioth-lists.debian.net/pipermail/pkg-pascal-devel/Week-of-Mon-20230612/004810.html
), so that whitedune issues do not affect view3dscene. Technically
view3dscene and whitedune are not related, aside from the fact that
they both support (among others) the X3D model format.

even package a subset of demo-models with view3dscene), see
https://alioth-lists.debian.net/pipermail/pkg-pascal-devel/Week-of-Mon-20230619/004819.html
. Whatever makes packaging job easier.

I am not decisive here, but my recommendation as upstream is to indeed
drop whitedune-docs dependency, and replace with a subset of
demo-models. If there's consensus, I can point to a subset of
https://github.com/castle-engine/demo-models that give sensible
coverage of features to test.

It already is :) This is the state of master branch:
https://github.com/castle-engine/view3dscene/blob/master/Makefile .

So at next view3dscene release, Debian should be able to drop that patch.
