Graham, from time to time I try and build my app (tomboy-ng) with
Lazarus's GTK3 and, sadly, it seems no closer to being a useful build
that it was several years ago. I, personal view here, would not expect
to see a viable GTK3 build happening in the next few years.

On the other hand, my app builds now with both Qt5 AND Qt6, feels faster
and looks similar (if using GTK3 dialogs for example). This is with the
current "fixes branch" that will become Lazarus 3.0 on release, there
are some Qt5 issues in the Lazarus currently in Debian. I'd suggest you
consider a move to Qt5 (or Qt6) coinciding with Debian supporting
Lazarus 3.0, hopefully not too far away.
