[Pkg-pciutils-discuss] about:oldlibs

Hi,
short question about the oldlibs libpci2, libsasl2, svgalibg1. after 
performing a fresh new installation (not update) of _Etch_ from a 
Magazin-DVD these 3 libs were listed as old/obsolete.
Trying to remove it with synaptic, it says that (for me) very essential 
packages (like gnome-desktop ...) will also be removed. so why the 
packages are old and _can be savely removed_ when important programs 
like the standard window manager needs them?? Do I misunderstand something?
