I removed the file from top level CVS-dir, and noticed afterwards that it is not yet in packages. Would you re-inject it please, so I can upload it?

Summary: libstring-escape-perl -- Perl module that provides conversion functions for escaped strings
Initial Comment:
Description: Perl module that provides conversion functions for escaped strings
This module provides a flexible calling interface to some
frequently-performed string conversion functions, including applying
and expanding standard C/Unix-style backslash escapes like \n and \t, wrapping
and removing double-quotes, and truncating to fit within a desired length.
See:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=235638
http://packages.qa.debian.org/libs/libstring-escape-perl.html
No Bugs so far, up do date with upstream (2002 ....), no reverse depends

Is this still an open bug? The package is now in testing, not as much a "Module to Package" as a "Packaged Module" :)

So just package your own and note that in README.Debian. Common practice, I think.

Oh, i also updated libastro-fits-header-perl. As we use dh_clean in the clean target, we need to build-depend (not -indep!) on debhelper.

The debian/rules is not really up-to-date. I've inserted some parts (especially for the $CFLAGS stuff) from http://pkg-perl.alioth.debian.org/rules-template-noxs
The rest seems to be OK.

(is out-date a verb? who cares)
It would be helpful to take the script from cvs that checks the debian and CPAN versions make it run for our packages only in a cronjob on alioth and if something becomes outdated, mail a report to pkg-perl-maintainers@lists.alioth.debian.org
(This should also test whether tracker notifications emails get sent to p-p-m@l.a.d.o :-))

I have tried to keep a debian/watch file for all the Perl modules I maintain, and run uscan regularly - Wouldn't this be enough?
Of course, there are some modules which are not in CPAN or cannot for whatever reason be covered by this method, but this can help with most.

As part of _each_ module?! This would be too repetitive. I would suggest adding it only in one place (probably in /usr/share/doc/perl/), and referenced from each module probably as it currently happens with /usr/share/common-licenses

Would it be possible to write a script that checks for all Packages with us as the maintainer, extracts the watch file, checks for newer version, and notifies pkg-perl-maintainers@lists.debian.org once a new version is detected?

Yes, seems pretty simple to do. In fact:
cd ~/cvs/pkg-perl/packages && uscan --report
Of course, we just have to create debian/watch for all of our modules and fix them in others - libperl6-form-perl's is not valid:
uscan warning: Can't determine protocol and site in
./libperl6-form-perl/debian/watch, skipping:
search.cpan.org PAN/authors/id/D/DC/DCONWAY/ Perl6-Form-(.*)\.tar\.gzdebian uupdate
Currently we have two packages with debian/watch that are outdated, libastro-fits-cfitsio-perl and liblocale-subcountry-perl. I haven't played with cvs-buildpackage yet, but I will do this manually right away :)

I like this one better - I am moving this discussion to the list. If nobody objects, we should add it as soon as possible, for it to be in the next version of each package. And we should add a template for debian/copyright as well.
