I think this is actually reported upstream as RT#5462[1]

RD#13027[2] looks like a problem splitting multi-byte characters in the
wrong place. I guess the patch there fixes the space problem by
accident.

Anyway, newer upstream version 5.426 declares RT#5462 as fixed, and is
prepared by Gregor in group's SVN so I am tagging this as pending.
Upload will follow soon. It would be nice if you can give the new
version some testing when it becomes available.
