this issue still exists. The refered CPAN bug report
(http://rt.cpan.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=18539) has got a recent update:
> This bug has been patched and committed. The source tree is available at
> http://github.com/dap/Net-XMPP. A developer release should be published
> to CPAN by 2010-09-26.
The sources have been moved to a new author on CPAN. The most recent version
(http://search.cpan.org/~dapatrick/Net-XMPP-1.02_02/) adds the 'srv' option
of XML::Stream to the Net::XMPP::* constructors. This might enable perl XMPP
implementations to use SRV lookups.
Although the SRV implementation of XML::Stream seems to be broken to work
with XMPP servers, but this is an issue of another bug :-)
